10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your home could likely use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Arvada, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money in years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are searching for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t give you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows will be trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will need a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can clean your home, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem counter-productive because you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it’s easy to overlook it during the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in rough condition the first time you step onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common home roof problems in Arvada. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to clean your home’s roof too, but you will need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.

If you see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it sit. This solution will kill any organic organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will improve your day, and will even motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent time to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.

Yard tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an assigned place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the look of your home.

Get rid of weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you will be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably finish all of these jobs after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Arvada Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
